Your guide to planning the ultimate Hunter Valley escape
Planning a Hunter Valley getaway to enjoy a wine or two with the girls or partner?
We regularly visit the region – our business was founded locally after all, so we have a few insider tips on where to stay for the best experience.
First a packing tip: make sure you dress for the weather because the cool and heat can be heavily impacted by whether there’s cool rain about (gumboots are welcome) or a hot day (that summer dress is going to look stunning).
Make sure you pack a GlowAfter bottle or two to ensure you get the most out of each day of exploring. Just remember that you don’t need the drops in any of the wine which is preservative-free.
Use them just to help reduce the effects of preservatives in some of the infamous Hunter Valley wines. You’re going to love them.
What to expect from your adventure into the Hunter Valley wine region
The Hunter Valley is found amongst the rolling countryside of New South Wales, just around the corner of the vibrant coastal hub of Newcastle.
We probably don’t have to tell you just how beautiful the landscape is, but throw in some quaint accommodation, a few dozen historic wineries, quaint cheese stores, and sweet delicacies and you’ll never want to leave the place!
Being only a day trip away from main cities like Newcastle, Sydney and the Central Coast, there really is no excuse not to indulge in all the luxuries that the Hunter Valley has to offer.
The best thing is that it is the perfect place to visit any time of the year. The timing really comes down to what you want to get out of your visit.
If you seek an all-out wine experience, then the best time for you to visit is during the Australian summer months (November to March).
If you choose to come during these months, you will find the Valley bustling with an array of events, live music, activities, markets, and festivals to accompany your wine experience under welcoming sunshine.
So, grab a glass (or two!), with a GlowAfter drop to rid of the next day nasties, and get comfortable as we dive into all the places you would be crazy not to include in your Hunter Valley getaway.
For the cozy weekend wanderer
If you’re after a weekend trip away with the girls, then your best months are June to July.
Despite being the winter season, there are still events running during these times and you’ll see the beautiful, natural splendour of the Hunter Valley countryside come to life beside toasty fireplaces and cozy countryside cottages.
To keep you warm during the colder nights, we recommend visiting your favourite local winery and grabbing yourself a nice red, equipped with just a couple of drops of GlowAfter, so that all that’s left to do is enjoy a spa treatment with your best gal pals.
For the traveller who wants to avoid peak hours for a little romance
If you’re looking for a trip away to enjoy all the Hunter Valley has to offer but without the crowds and activities, then we recommend planning your trip during the months of March to May. The temperature during this time is mild, not too hot or too cold. Perfect if you’re wanting to bike between wineries without the sweat!
Cycle on over to the picnic destination of your choice, with a bottle of bubbles, and a couple of cheese and chocolate options. Sit back, relax and enjoy serenity.
